Late today
Friday, November 21st, 2008Sorry folks, today’s strip will be late: I really haven’t had time to draw it. Expect it hopefully around 18:00 GMT or on Saturday morning (GMT) at the latest.

So, let’s put aside the 3D experiment and all the discussions going around them, just for a moment. I’ve made some standard sized banners that can be used to link to Geek Hero, if you would like to. You can find them in the Stuff section!
As usual, your comments and ideas are very welcome!
Thanks!
Here’s one of them, as a treat =)
So, according to your comments, it looks like most of you prefer the good old 2D version of the characters. The reason seems to be that these 3D characters look lifeless and boring, while the old ones are funky, crisp and fun. I couldn’t agree more, but the reason is, i believe, simply in the colors. I’m working in having brighter, crisper and flatter colors in the 3D version too: the ultimate goal is that it will look like exactly like the 2D one, except that the potential is much broader: the limit is the sky! And who knows if someday there will be a Geek Hero animated movie! =)
I hope I’ll manage to find the time, in next few days, to write an article about the history of Geek Hero and how my programmer’s mindset influences my drawing: this is, after all, a comic written and drawn by a programmer, and you would expect that programmers’ innate attitude towards optimization would have a say, in all this!
In the meantime, I modeled Ross in 3D. Again, keep in mind that there’s a lot of work to be done with the colors, the lights, the materials, the overall look & feel! Here it is:
This poll will be running till the end of November, so let me know what you think! The poll is visible in the sidebar on the right, just below the calendar.
Hello people, my apologies: you’re getting this note instead of todays comic! But don’t lose all hope: today’s comic will be published in about 8 hours, so hold on and come and check later!
And YES, there will be a surprise!
Hello friends! I have registered GeekHeroComic.com and now it’s up. Don’t worry, you don’t need to update your bookmarks or your feed subscription, because the first will be seeminglessly redirected, and the second just didn’t change!
And for all of you, happy Visual Basic coding… NOT!
Enjoy this fresh new goodie in the Stuff section! As usual, this was created using solely Open Source programs. I copied Randie from one of the comics, exported him to a large size, and opened that in The Gimp. Then I did a few tricks, like duplicating the ink layer and setting a gaussian blur to it, so it looks like he’s glowing. Then I created those radial line using a conic gradient, and applied a rust pattern plus some plasma cloud plugin sweetness to that panel behind Randie. Anyone wanting the XCF file? It’s free of course!
Dear readers, as it seems I’ve been getting a bunch of new fans lately, I thought I might make the website a little nicer, so I redesigned some parts. Come and visit and let me know if you like it! I hadn’t been working on HTML/CSS stuff for a while, and that’s why I owe a HUGE thanks to the Firebug team, for having created such an awesome thing.
Sorry for not having updated the comic in a while, I got a little busy with another comic project! I’ll try to keep to the schedule from now on. In the mean time, enjoy this “masterpiece” from CSI New York, it cracked me!
“I’ll create a GUI interface using Visual Basic. See if I can track an IP address.”
Priceless!
I skipped Wednesday’s strip because I was too depressed to come up with anything funny. The sadness was causes by the shooting in the school of Kauhajoki, in Finland. I’ll make up for it on Friday, with a 6-panel strip!
